Game Projects Week 3 Restarterinos

Week 1 and week 2 were prototyping weeks, so this means we had to throw away all progress we made and start over! We learned from the prototyping phase and all started working on the same Unity project using perforce.  The Perforce plugins for Unity and Visual Studio are super handy, they make the game development life a lot easier!

Perforce (P4V)

Perforce

We made the same progress as we did in the previous two weeks: the cube, the player controller, the pickups, the throwable objects, the dynamic camera. We do have an extra spawner, but nothing fancy to show to our beloved readers. We have a lot of new art to show though!

Player Movement:

This week, we are also working on Character Controller for players to move and jump. It took quite awhile to get movement and jumping right with the controller.

Finally the project could be moved into the first production sprint! As for the character, we pushed the proportions some more, going for a more stylized look as can be seen in the Art bible. The head is now about as big as the rest of the body, and the character is more chubby in general. Before working on textures, a rig was needed by the devs to further work on the ragdoll functionality. A rig was created by using CAT in 3DsMax that should work on all characters, as long as the base model is similar.

After a lot of struggling, the rig had to be redone completely because constraints were needed for the ragdoll functionality, but with no actual experience in using a CAT rig in Max, this didn't behave like expected. A new rig was created in Maya, this time with constraints as well.

As for environments, the first level is starting to take shape, with multiple props in it already!
